Welcome
Welcome to Vinton Elementary School
Vinton Elementary School, located at 3101 Elmwood Avenue, Lafayette, Indiana 47904, has a student population of close to 470 students in grades Kindergarten through Fourth Grade.
Our beautiful building is divided into individual grade level classroom groupings that we call Pods. Each pod, with the exception of Kindergarten, has four classrooms. All of the classrooms are filled with educational materials and examples of student work. Our classrooms also contain a variety of technology that can access information from virtually anywhere and bring it right to our students' fingertips.
In addition to the core curricular areas, our students also receive instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Media Services each week. Lafayette School Corporation is known state and nationwide for our amazing fine arts and athletic programs. This interest and commitment begins at the elementary level and continues throughout our students' educational career. Many of our students have been recognized for their performances through these special classroom opportunities.
Technology has an important place within our walls. All of our K-4th grade students benefit from the one-to-one initiative, where each student has his/her own iPad to use at school. All of our students benefit from a variety of technology resources: BenQ boards, document cameras, iPad apps, AppleTV and more.
Vinton is a Title I School, which means we receive federal funding to support reading and math instruction. We use this money to hire additional teachers, support staff, technology and materials to help our students reach their goals. Mrs. Yuill is our lead Title I teacher.
Student medical concerns are handled by a full time nurse on site each day. Nurse Melanie Perkins can be contacted at school for any medical issues that might arise during the school year.
We are fortunate to have Read to Succeed volunteers, through United Way, each week. A variety of local organizations also provide mentors for our students who need a little extra adult attention throughout their school day.
Vinton is made up of a community of learners, teachers, students, parents, and a community that values the importance of a quality education in today’s changing world. Vinton School is a caring community of learners who work together and strive toward excellence for all students.

Greetings!
I feel so blessed to be in my 13th year as principal of this fabulous school. It was 28 years ago I actually began my teaching career right here within the walls of Vinton Elementary School. After teaching at three other schools, returning to Vinton was one of the best opportunities I could have asked for!
Like you, my family is the most important thing to me. I have three children: Samantha (JHS Class of 2017 and Earhart Elementary Teacher), TJ (JHS Class of 2019) and Brady (JHS Class of 2022). They keep me on my toes and busy! My husband, Mark, is the Principal at Lafayette Jefferson High School.
To say our family is invested in the Lafayette School Corp. would be an understatement. Having all three of our children grow up in the LSC and graduate from Lafayette Jeff High School has been the best decision we've ever made. We are extremely proud to be part of the LSC family, and we wouldn't want our family anywhere else.
I'm excited to work together with the Vinton community of parents, staff and volunteers to help make our students the best they can be. These kids are truly AMAZING individuals. It's our job to work together to guide each of them to achieve their true potential.
Thanks for being part of the Vinton Family! "Once a Viking, ALWAYS a Viking!"
Yours in education,
Cindy Preston
Principal, Vinton Elementary School
